The Ogun state Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has advised the Personnel of the Nigeria customs service to be civil in thier operations so as to stop loss of lives that usually arise during clashes between the agency and people at the border areas of the state.
Governor Abiodun made the plea on thursday while playing host to the newly appointed Customs Area Controller, CAC, Ogun Area1 Command, Comptroller Dera Nnadi at Oke-mosan, Abeokuta.
The governor who frowned at the incessant killing of innocoent people at the border post harped on the need for customs to come up with programmes and policies that will promote cordial relationship with the people.
While commending the custom boss for his initiative in restoring peace at the border axis,the governor urged the personnel of the anti-smuggling outfit to change the narrative of the era of invading markets and shooting sporadically in a quest to fight smuggling activities without minding the consequences
Reiterating the commitment of the current administration in providing adequate security for the protection of lives and properties across the state, the man at the helms of affairs at the gatewsy state assured the para,-military agency of maximum support, saying peaceful enviroment is an attraction for massive investment
Earlier, Comptroller Dera Nnadi said the purpose of the visit was to seek for the support of governor Dapo Abiodun in his determination to end the usual skirmishes between the officials of the service and people at the border posts.
The customs boss who informed that he has met with large number of traditional rulers in the state towards promoting peaceful coexistence therefore appealed to the residents to stop attacking men of the Nigeria customs service, stressing that it is always difficult and dangerous to fight a man with a gun
