National Youth Games: Team Ogun Emerges 8th Overall, 2nd Best In South West

After days of active competition in Ilorin, Kwara State, the venue of the 6th National Youth Games, Team Ogun has emerged the 8th best team on the medals table.

With Delta State retaining the crown it won last time out, the Ogun State contingent fought till the last day to finish in the top part of the medals chart and only inferior to team Lagos in the South West.

Ogun State garnered 8 gold, 13 silver and 24 Bronze medals, a total of 45 medals.

At the last edition in 2019, team Ogun finished with 32 medals Overall, meaning the Gateway state contingents were able to win 13 medals more than it recorded it the last outing.

Led by the Director of Sports, Ogun State Sports Council, Mrs Iyabode Rotimi, the team made an instant Impact at the multi sports events by opening the medal floor with a Gold in Gymnastics won by Usman Kareem.

Gymnastics delivered two Gold medals, Chess won a gold, Shooting sports accounted for two, while Cycling, Judo and Golf also won a gold medal each.

With the development, the team is expected to receive a befitting welcome when they return to Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.

Meanwhile, Kano State has been confirmed as the hosts of the 7th edition of the National Youth Games.

Hon. Sport Minister, Mr. Sunday Dare disclosed the next host at the closing ceremony held at the football pitch of University of Ilorin, Kwara State.
