OGSG REITERATES COMMITMENT TOWARDS ACHIEVING MULTIMODAL TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM

The Ogun State Governor,  Prince Dapo Abiodun has reiterated the commitment of the current administration towards achieving an effective multimodal system of transportation system to improve on the socio-economic status of the state.

Governor Abiodun gave the assurance this midweek while receiving two reports on the transportation sector named Abeokuta transport intervention plan from the h5ead, United kingdoms Prosperity Fund, Nigeria Office, Miss Martha Bustock and Strategic Transport Intervention Plan for Ogun State by the Ogun State Transport Steering committyee headed by the Commissioner for Transportation, enginyeer Gbenga Dairo at the Exco chamber, Governor’s Office, Abeokuta.

The Governor explained that the ministry of transportation was created to modernize and promote efficiency in the transport sector as part of it’s urban renewal project to improve on the movement of people in and out of the state

He informed that as part of the strategies in achieving effective transportation system, government has commenced rehabilitation of both urban and rural roads, adding that government would soon start discussion with the Lagos State government towards the building of light rail in the state

The man at the helms of affairs in the state assured that the implementation of Ogun State Bus Mass Transit Scheme would commence before May 29 in line with the recommendations of the committee.

The Governor while thanking the committee members for doing a good job and the united kingdom for the partnership towards the growth of the state transportation sector promised that government would ensure proper implementation of the committee’s report

Earlier, the Head, United kingdoms Prosperity Fund, Nigeria Office, Miss Martha Bustock while assuring the government of foreign support , urged the government to initiate legislation framework that would make the project implementation successful

In his presentation, Dr Muse Solanke of the Department of Transport Management, Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU advised the government to set up a Transport Trust Fund and ensure proper management of the various motor parks in the state to accrue more revenue and to discourage touting.
