The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abidoun has assured the Ogun state chapter of Taxi Operators and Owners Association, that the current administration would continue to ensure that their rights is protected at all times.
Governor abiodun gave the assurance this thursday while receiving the Taxi Operators and Owners who were on a peaceful protest to the governor’s office at okemosan, Abeokuta over the recent increase of petroleum pump price by the independent petroleum marketers association of Nigeria, IPMAN
Reacting to the agitation of the protesters calling for the reduction in petroleum pump price, the governor urged them to see the increase as a decision for the collective good of the citizens, saying that the authority to increase and decrease the price of petrol only resides with the Federal government.
Represented by the chief of staff, alhaji shuaib salisu,Governor abiodun explained that the decision of the state government for directing the cab operators to carry two passengers at the back seat was to ensure that the lives of passengers and the drivers are protected in this era of global pandemic and to avoid the spread of the disease
The governor advised the cab operators to abide by the traffic laws in the state to avoid confrontation with security agencies urging them to always report any security agent that harass them after they might have complied with the traffic laws
According to the governor, the trace officers have been directed not to harass any driver who violate the state traffic law but ensure that the law take its course
The governor who commended the cab operators for the peaceful protest urged them to support the current administration in its efforts of rebranding the transportation sector for the benefit of the people of the state
In a remark, the spokesperson of the association, mr Adesina Adebankole applauded governor Dapo abiodun for the massive rehabilitation of roads across the state which according to him will enhance people’s movement and reduce the cost of vehicle maintenance.
