OGUN GOVERNOR WRITES HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ON THREE CRITICAL ISSUES

The Ogun State House of Assembly on Tuesday, acknowledged three correspondences from the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun requesting for the downward review of the 2020 Appropriation Bill, following the negative socio-economic effect poised by the outbreak of COVID pandemic; proposal of two new executive bills and three months extension of tenure for the twenty Local Government councils.

The Speaker, the Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo who read the letters before the lawmakers at the Plenary held at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, intimated that the revision of the State Budget from N449, 973, 690, 275.79 to N280, 907, 538, 376. 47 representing 38% decrease was in alignment with fiscal realities occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic.

He informed that Revenue now fixed at N280. 9billion while Recurrent Expenditure is N 69.087billion with Overhead Cost put at N47. 826 billion.

The Assembly also acknowledged another correspondence proposing two bills namely- ”A Bill for a Law to Establish the Ogun State Safety Commission and A Bill for a Law to establish the Ogun State Energy Board”.

According to the letter, both bills were exhaustively considered and approved for onward transmission to the Assembly at the 9th Executive Council meeting held on the 7th July, 2020.

In a related development, Governor Abiodun sought the approval of the Assembly for the extension of tenure of the Transition Committee for a period of three month effect from 19th July, 2020 to avert the creation of a vacuum in Local Government Administration following the expiration of their previous tenure on 18th July, 2020.

Consequently, Speaker Oluomo directed transition chairmen to submit detailed reports of their various activities in the last two months to the Assembly on or before Thursday, 23rd July, 2020 for immediate consideration by the lawmakers
