Men with the intention of raping children and women need to have a rethink and steer clear of the Gateway state.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Funmilayo Efuwape made this known while featuring as guest on OGBC Personality Programme “Sunday Morning Live on FM”.
Mrs Efuwape who noted that the increasing cases of rape in the society are worrisome, said that government is not leaving any stone unturned towards putting a stop to the inhumane act.
Mrs Efuwape urged the victims of rape and parents to speak out by approaching the appropriate quarters for prompt action.
She added that as part of efforts to put a stop to the rampant cases of rape, the Ogun state government will open a sex offenders’ register for the documentation of culprits.
This means offenders whose names appear in the register will be deprived of many opportunities such as vying for political position.
According to the Commissioner, her Ministry is collaborating with the Ministries of Justice, Health and Education as well as the Police and Non-Governmental Organizations to curb the incidence of rape.
While saying that the fight against rape is a task for all stakeholders, she advised parents to ensure proper upbringing of boys and girls and enlightened them against rape for them to live responsibly.
